What is Drawing and Talking Therapy?
Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic, person-centred approach to enable
the person accessing the support, to express and process their emotions and
feelings through symbolic representation and storytelling language.
It is suitable for anyone who is experiencing difficulties with anxiety,
trauma or emotional pain
(suitable from age 5, there is no upper age limit).
Too often children and adults feel afraid to admit they need help around
their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Whether you are a child or young person, adult or grandparent,
we all at times feel like we are struggling.
The important thing to know and remember is you are not alone,
and help is available.
Drawing and Talking Therapy is the number one alternative to CBT
and direct talking therapies and is designed to complement CAMHS
and other specialist therapies.

It can be very difficult, particularly for children and young people,
to express their emotions and make sense of how they are feeling
and the difficulties they are going through.
Based upon the work of Carl Jung (Founder of Analytical & Jungian Psychology)
and
John Bowlby (Founder of the Attachment Theory),
this non-invasive, gentle, therapeutic approach allows them to do
so in a non-confrontational way.
Drawing and Talking works with the unconscious mind to allow the person
to make sense of their inner world, activate self-healing
and form healthy attachments.

As their Practitioner.....

As their practitioner, I provide a safe, confidential and
caring space to ‘hold’ them whilst they explore and communicate their emotions
through drawing
and storytelling language.
My role is not to interpret their pictures or ‘fix’ the child, but instead,
provide the space for the child or young person to make sense
of their inner world,
to enable them to process their emotional needs through
symbolic representation,
activating self-healing.

What to expect from a Drawing and Talking session....

Drawing and Talking takes place at the same time, the same place
and on the same day for a period of 12 weeks,
each session lasting 30 minutes.
During the session, your child is given the tools and freedom
to express what is happening
in their unconscious mind, in a safe, uninterrupted environment.
This allows emotions to be expressed naturally through
symbolic representations
without the worry of having to confront and address them verbally.
The sessions remain confidential between the person accessing support
and the practitioner.
At the end of each session, their picture will be put into their folder
and kept safely away until the next session.
At the end of all the work (12 sessions),
the folder is handed back to them to keep as they wish.
